Legal Advice on Discrimination for EmployeesIt is unlawful to discriminate against a colleague at work on the basis of their :-

  • disability
  • gender identity and gender reassignment
  • marriage or civil partnership
  • pregnancy and maternity
  • race
  • religion or belief
  • sex
  • sexual orientation

The law also protects against discrimination ‘by association’. This means that, in certain circumstances, you may have a claim for discrimination because of comments made or actions taken in relation to other people. For example, if you are dismissed for taking time off to look after a disabled child, you may have a claim for disability discrimination even if you are not disabled.
