Don’t Put Off Organising Your Power of Attorney.

Incredibly there are 67,000 applications for Lasting Power of Attorney made every month.

Many thousands of applications lie languishing for months and many more thousands lie unregistered because of mistakes made when applying. Staffing problems at the Office of the Public Guardian are causing huge delays too..

The Power of Attorney is a legal document that needs lots of checking. It can also require lots of enquiries back and forth to get more information or clarifications. The Office of the Public Guardian will look closely at documents. However, whilst this is a good thing, the problem is that The Office of the Public Guardian has a third of a million applications pending.

This has had a huge knock on effect with the average waiting time now being 140 days instead of 48 days to register the LPA. (The Government have admitted this)

The Power of Attorney that you need, whether for Health and Welfare or Finance and Wealth (there are two types of Power of Attorney) can be organised by Hewetts’ Tim Butcher.

We can arrange your legal affairs to give you peace of mind.

Your Power of Attorney is an important document.

To find out more about why it is important, do please check out our guide to Power of Attorney.

The alternative to the Power of Attorney is unfortunately applying for a Court Order. This can take a long time, and during this period very few decisions can be made.

For example, you cannot sell a property to pay for care. You can’t make decisions about medical treatment. The person who is suffering can’t be looked after in the way you want and there is a lot of guessing, rather than knowing, about the decisions someone would have wanted you to take.

Ultimately this can mean that a person can suffer for many months in a worse condition than if the application had been processed sooner.

Hewetts Solicitors are happy to offer you a Power of Attorney service that is quick, efficient and competent. Get in touch with Tim Butcher on 0118 957 5337 to find out more.
